Q: I have always believed that if something seemed too good to be true, it usually is. Why is the KNEKT so good?
A: It runs on Linux, a lower priced operating system and uses non-Windows software with solid state flash drives. They are imported into Bermuda directly from the manufacturer - no middlemen.
Q: How do you pronounce Knekt?
A: Use a hard K, as in 'Kate', not a soft K as in 'know'. So you pronounce it like 'connect'
Q: I don't have a credit card, can I still buy from you?
A: Yes, you can
[1] send us a cheque and receive delivery after it has cleared the bank
[2]
call into our office, pay cash and take your
KNEKT away with you
[3] pay through online banking. After placing your order, choose the Internet Transfer payment when you check out. You will then be provided with all the necessary account information to make the transfer. Make sure that your order number is included when making the transfer.
Q: How long do you take to deliver?
A: All orders are usually delivered within 1 - 2 business days in the City of Hamilton or a little longer in the rest of the Island.
Q: Do you ship overseas?
A: Yes. We believe in the WORLD WIDE web, but this is really intended for Bermuda residents. We are a small company and not geared up to pack parcels and send them out. Ask us for a quote via our
contact page if you would like to ship overseas.
Q: Do you have a quantity discount for Government or Corporations?
A: You bet! Let us know how many you would like and we'll give you a quote. If you want to sample one first, buy it at the regular price of $695 and we'll refund the difference when you place your bulk order.
Q: What is the Warranty?
A: You're kidding....at this price? Actually we're working on all that right now.
Q: What is Linux?
A: Linux is open source operating software. It is very compact and does not have most of the unnecessary bells and whistles that are found in other systems such as Windows or MacOS. It is also known to be very resistant to viruses. Start up time is very quick with Linux, usually under a minute.
Q: Can I use my favourite Windows or Mac programmes?
A: No. The
KNEKT is a lightweight machine for browsing, e-mail and writing in almost any location. It is not suited to heavy duty graphics work or number crunching. You can read and edit Excel or Word documents on
the pre-installed software.
Unit uses the Linux 2.4 platform. As this is not an Intel CPU, you can't download and install other applications/games from the internet that are not specifically written for this machine.
Q: I want to be able to send and receive pictures from my family abroad. Can I do this ?
A: Yes you can. You can receive pictures via email and view them in the built in Media viewer. To send pictures, just remove the card from your camera and insert it in the SD card reader. It will pick up on your pictures and you can decide which you would like to send and where.
Q: How easy is it for me to connect to the Internet?
A: Plug in the cable from a DSL modem and click on the desktop browser icon. Or use the WiFi dongle supplied and use any WiFi connection.
You cannot use a dial-up connection.
Q: How small is the KNEKT?
A: As we mention in our
Specs sheet, it weighs about 1½ pounds and measures 8.3 x 5.6 x 1.3 inches. That means that it weighs slightly more than a bottle of water and measures about the same as a letter sized sheet of paper folded in half. It is slightly thicker than a cigarette packet - if you can remember what that is! The worldwide power adapter weighs 3½ ounces.
Q: Can I use it when I travel?
A: That is really answered in the question above. The KNEKT is very lightweight and the power supply/battery charger will work on 120 or 240 volts. The only extra that you may need is a plug converter for countries that do not use the flat pin plugs that we use in Bermuda and North America. It will easily fit into your carry-on luggage, an important factor with airlines charging for checked bags.
To ensure that you do not pay customs duty again when you return from a trip, you should register your duty paid KNEKT, via Customs Form 52a, before your departure. You can do this before a Customs Officer at HM Customs Main Office on Front Street; or General Post Office - Parcel Post; or Airport Customs Passenger Arrivals Hall prior to check-in for an airline flight; or Airport Customs Long Room Freight Shed; or HM Customs Yacht Reporting Facility, St. George's.
You will need to show the machine and a copy of the invoice.
Q: What about printing?
A: If you have a printer that is Linux compatible, this will work with the
KNEKT. Check your printer manufacturers' web site or your printer documentation. An excellent site for all printers is
www.OpenPrinting.org.
Q: There is no CD drive. How to I load up programmes or music?
A: You can download direct from the Internet or save your data to a memory stick and copy from there.
Q: How much storage does the KNEKT have and what if I need to add more?
A: There is 1Gb of storage in the standard model but we are offering a free upgrade to 2GB during . This is most likely enough to store all you need. However, if you need more, you can use an external hard drive, a memory stick, or one of the many online FREE storage site such as
